Irisbond has been awarded with the COVID-19 Seal of Excellence certificate delivered by the European Commission (EC) for the project IrisGo.
IrisGo was sent for evaluation to the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator Pilot. As stated by the EC, the EIC Accelerator Pilot offers Europe’s brightest and boldest entrepreneurs the chance to step forward and request funding for breakthrough ideas with the potential to create entirely new markets or revolutionize existing ones. Highly innovative SMEs with a clear commercial ambition and a potential for high growth and internationalization are the prime target. The 20th of March 2020, the EC made an urgent call through the EIC Accelerator Pilot for technologies and innovations that could help in treating, testing, monitoring or other aspects of the Coronavirus outbreak.
The COVID-19 Seal of Excellence is a highly competitive quality label awarded to project proposals which were evaluated to have a high excellence and impact to deserve funding in this special call, but did not receive it due to current EC’s budgetary constraints.
In the current situation with Covid-19, the World Health Organization has made a clear statement: people can become infected by touching objects or surfaces where the virus has landed if they later touch their eyes, nose or mouth. As a result, they emphasize the need to wash our hands regularly, as using gloves is not considered an effective way in preventing infection. In this situation where the prevention of the spread seems so difficult, what about implementing a revolutionary solution which allows this interaction but without any physical contact?
Eye-tracking offers a touch-free, intuitive and accurate control of devices. Thanks to this technology, touch or mouse access can be replaced by the movement of the gaze.
However, current eye-tracking solutions depend on an additional HW with infrared lights to track the eyes. The need of this additional hardware makes the implementation of eye-tracking not feasible, as it would imply exchanging all current devices in the field.
Irisgo answers to the limitations of current systems as the only solution in the market that does not need any additional hardware, allowing an intuitive and contact-less interaction with devices.
